Annual Student Competition

The Chicago Flute Club began holding an annual student competition in 1992. In the early years, from 1992 through 1997, the competition was run with only one division, open to any students high school aged or younger. (There was no competition held in 1993.) The split of the Student Competition into Junior and Senior divisions commenced in 1998, and another split into the three current divisions (Elementary, Junior, and Senior) occurred in 2005. The Senior Division was created for students in 12th grade or younger, the Junior Division was created for students in 9th grade or younger, and the Elementary Division for students in 6th grade or younger. Traditionally, once a student has won first place in any division, they are no longer permitted to compete in that division again, regardless of age or grade. First place winners of the two younger divisions may compete in the next higher division the following year. To download an application for the Annual Student Competition, click here.
